From Flash to Flex—Empressr Reborn

EI wrote about Empressr earlier this year. Back then it’s a pure Flash based startup that entered into the online slides creation space, along with Thumbstacks and others. Now, Empressr V.3 is out with brand new Flex user interface and richer set of features. Very impressive.

To differentiate with other online/offline presentation creation offers, Empressr is focusing on rich media. I think it’s the right direction to take. Going more visual and social is generally a path to success at the online world.

I’m sure Flex gives them quicker and easier ways of adding and improving features set, than doing pure Flash. Also they can easily hire more developers this way. But still, I like to hear how and why they turned to Flex and what’s the plan regarding offline (AIR?) I’m sure they have one.... Charles (Flex RIA)

I wonder how long it will be before Google swallows this up to get a presentation bit for their office suit
If you need to create a presentation and don’t have anything to do it with (other than a network connection) and don’t want to make another Google Page, take a look at Empressr. Right now it doesn’t seem to like FF2 on the Mac very much, but I think that has more to do with FF’s issues with Flash in this build. Safari and Windows browsers seem to be right up to spec. I wonder how long it will be before Google swallows this up to get a presentation bit for their office suite?

The interface is effective and attractive, and creating / manipulating elements is as easy as can be

PowerPoint has been worked to death, and people are ready for different types of presentations. Perhaps something a little flashier would do the job? Empressr is an AJAX/Flash-based Web application that allow you to create, share, and store presentations online. It’s free to use, and you can start creating presentations without needing to sign-up for an account. Of course, if you want to save your work, then you’ll need to become a member. The interface is effective and attractive, and creating/manipulating elements is as easy as can be. Empressr does more than just allow you to use basic text and graphs; you can actually include streaming media and animations if you feel the need to do so. That should help your audience to be revived from their presentation coma. A presentation isn’t any good unless it’s shared with others, so feel free to pass your work around to your contacts. Put away the bullet points - it’s time to make your presentations presentable. Brandon Watts
